“Urania” by Salvador Dali is an original drypoint engraving from 1971, hand-colored in watercolor and heightened with gold. It comes from “Les Muses”, the suite Dali dedicated to the Muses of Greek mythology, published by Les Heures Claires in Paris.

Urania is the Muse of astronomy and astrology. She appears here as a robed stargazer in a tall pointed hat, wand in hand. A pale gold arc crosses the sky toward a dark, swirling cloud, and fine perspective lines lead the eye to tiny figures on the horizon. The washes of yellow, pink and lilac were applied by hand over the engraved line, so each impression of the edition differs slightly.

This impression is hand-signed in pencil by Dali and numbered 83/145, from the edition on Vélin d’Arches. The Dali blind stamp sits in the lower left corner. The work is offered framed, in a carved dark wood frame with gilt detailing and a pale blue mount.
